NoGi, Submission wrestling, also known as submission grappling or simply grappling, is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on ground fighting and submission techniques.

It is a hybrid discipline that draws from various grappling arts, including Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Judo, Sambo, and wrestling.

Submission wrestling is practiced as both a competitive sport and a training method for self-defense and mixed martial arts (MMA).

The origins of submission wrestling can be traced back to ancient Greece and Japan, where Pankration and Jujutsu emerged as popular combat sports.

Judo, developed by Jigoro Kano in the late 19th century, incorporated many grappling techniques from Jujutsu and influenced the development of various grappling styles around the world, including Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Other styles of submission grappling, such as freestyle wrestling and Sambo, also emerged and contributed to the evolution of submission wrestling.

The term submission wrestling is often used by mixed martial arts schools and fighters to describe their grappling methods without being associated with any one art.

It may also refer to the tactic of relying primarily on submission wrestling skills to defeat an opponent in mixed martial arts competition.

In submission wrestling, the goal is to force an opponent to submit through joint locks, chokes, or other submission holds. Unlike traditional wrestling, submission wrestling emphasizes techniques that can lead to a submission, such as tapping out or verbally submitting, rather than pinning an opponent's shoulders to the ground.

No-Gi submission wrestling competitions, No-Gi grappling tournaments, or submission-only events, may vary in rulesets, with some allowing strikes and others focusing solely on grappling techniques.

Points may be awarded for takedowns, dominant positions, and near-submissions, but the ultimate goal is to secure a submission and end the match.

The most well-known subset of submission wrestling is No-Gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu, with the ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship considered its most prestigious tournament.
